New local transport schemes for East Hampshire

Maintaining access to services is vital for rural communities in order to combat rural isolation. A Transport Task & Finish Group has been set up as part of the East Hampshire Community Partnership with the specific task of collating a list of potential local transport schemes across the District.

We are looking to invite community groups to submit proposals for local transport initiatives that would meet access needs in the local area. For example, a local transport initiative could take the form of producing information leaflets in order to raise awareness of available services or installing cycle storage to encourage people to cycle rather than take the car, however we would welcome a variety of different schemes.

Schemes will be appraised through a competitive process.  The schemes most likely to be supported will meet some or all of the following criteria:-

- Sustainable: that is, an initiative which would not require continuing financial support once completed

- Innovative

- Cost Effective

- Beneficial to a number of people

- Will meet the needs of those without access to a car, and vulnerable groups such as older people, young people and those with disabilities.

- Improve access to key facilities or services

- Reduce the impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions

- Utilising existing assests, facilities or services more fully and cost effectively.

Resources are limited so investment is likely to be toward small scale schemes of up to £10,000-£20,000.  Investment over and beyond this would be the exception.  Investment is more likely to be toward capital improvement schemes, and less likely toward revenue based schemes unless it requires a specific short term investment that is sustainable over the longer term with clearly identified responsibility within the community.

It is important to emphasise that schemes need to be realistic with clearly identifiable benefits.

If you would like to submit a scheme please do so using the forms which can be accessed via the link below, by Friday 23rd September 2011.
